Event Description

All Hazards Communications Unit Leader (COML) L0969 (L 969-HS)

~~The Type III COML course trains emergency responders of the role and duties of performing as radio communications unit leaders during all-hazards emergency operations – significantly improving communications across the multiple disciplines and jurisdictions responding to an incident.  This COML training will qualify emergency responders as lead radio communications coordinators if they possess the necessary prerequisites, including knowledge of the following:  local communications; communications systems; and local, regional, and state communications plans.  COML responsibilities include developing plans for the effective use of incident communications equipment and facilities, managing the distribution of communications equipment to incident personnel, and coordinating the installation and testing of communications equipment.  This class is targeted for students who have strong leadership abilities.  Deployment as a single communication unit resource will be gained by the student after returning to his/her home agency during the Position Task Book process. The Position Task Book process will be explained during the class.

Eligibility

~~Target Audience:  The target audience includes full time law enforcement, fire, ems, communications, and emergency management officials, particularly communication system personnel, tactical radio operators, and mobile command vehicle operators.  Volunteer auxiliary emergency communicators such as amateur radio operators will be accepted into the class only after the registration deadline has passed and if open seats remain after full time paid personnel have been added.

~~Class size limit:  The class size is limited to 30 participants.  Applicants meeting all prerequisites and submitting them as required at the time of registration will be given priority.  Those who are missing a portion of the prerequisites will be placed on a waiting list and must provide proof of completion two weeks prior to the course.

~~Prerequisites:  TICS 100.c;G-191, EOC/ICS Interface, ICS 200.c, ICS 300, ICS 400, ICS 700.b, ICS 800.d and a letter of recommendation or support from Agency Head or Training Officer.  Also a letter or email from a State, County or City official authorizing each student to attend on behalf of a recognized governmental organization is required.   Completion of the DHS COMT course IS NOT required prior to COML.
