The objective of the DPH's Media and Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) training is to bring Communicators and Subject Matter Experts and anyone who has the potential to interact with the public and/or the media together to learn from each other. Message development and dissemination are most effective if everyone involved understands their role and the roles of others. This training will cover the most effective ways of providing specific audiences with the most accurate, timely, effective, consistent, and actionable message. This includes best practices, as well as, potential pitfalls and challenges to keep in mind.
This full-day class typically consists of practical interactions and how best to deliver the intended message. It covers which delivery methods to use and how to use them. It also includes guest presenters with specific expertise, mock video interviews, and critiques of the delivery. The basic CERC class is also included for participants to obtain Georgia CERC certification upon completion. Most importantly, it brings people from multiple DPH disciplines together to learn effective collaborative efforts to accomplish mutual goals.
