Event Description

Water Filtration for Facilities (DPH-118)

This training overview is relative to users who will primarily be operating water filtration equipment in a fixed facility environment during a water disruption event. Facilities based training is intended for hospitals, schools, EOCs, emergency shelters, or any other permanent structure that has utilities throughout the building. The buildings can be either independently standing or on a campus complex. Although the primary objective will be to train users for facility based operations users will learn the key concepts and skills needed to transition from a fixed base operation to a portable or mobile operation if the need arises.

This overview is generic in nature and based upon operational practices in many facilities. Individual hospitals or agencies may have unique operational procedures or organizational structures. First Water training can be easily adapted to meet any specific need or circumstance.

Depending on the amount of equipment to be trained on, the first part of the class lasts about 1 - 2 hours and will consist of a higher-level overview of the concepts and issues that must be addressed in handling water emergencies. Your new equipment allows these emergencies to be handled in a significantly different way from in the past and it is important that your emergency preparedness people understand new options available to them. These options usually require a fresh look at existing policies covering water disruption events and by attending the class committee members will be in a better position to determine the best policies for your facility.

The second part of training also lasts about 1 hour and is a more in-depth and detailed look at the equipment. Training on the equipment is normally very simple since we are dealing with people who are already very mechanically inclined and the equipment is designed for ease of use. We will be reviewing operation, setup, and maintenance issues during this phase of training.
