Through facilitated discussion, case studies, tabletop exercises, and hands on activities, participants will learn how to plan for and conduct operations during mass search and rescue events. Specific topics include collecting, analyzing, and processing intelligence; formulating search strategies; conducting search operations; managing resources; utilizing technology in search; and documenting search efforts. While designed for events of large scale the concepts also apply to wilderness search and other events which involve coordinating search and rescue resources from multiple agencies. The instructor cadre are experienced emergency responders who have actively utilized wide area search techniques during some of the Nation’s largest and most challenging operations including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, terrorist events, other large-scale search incidents that required these same comprehensive strategies.
